Mauro Peter Presents Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook in Amsterdam
On 15 March 2026, Mauro Peter will perform Hugo Wolf’s renowned Italian Songbook at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam, together with Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert and pianist Joseph Middleton. The work is considered one of the most important achievements of late 19th-century art song.
Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook brings together 46 short, striking songs into a fascinating dialogue between man and woman: at times humorous, at times yearning, always characterised by textual refinement and deep expressiveness. Wolf succeeds in linking inner emotional states with musical elegance, creating an appealing panorama of human experience that is often described in concert contexts as a “mini-opera in song form.”
The Amsterdam concert marks another highlight in Peter’s engagement with this programme. During the 2024/25 season, he had already performed the same repertoire together with soprano Louise Alder at renowned venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall and the Vienna Musikverein.
The evening in Amsterdam promises to become yet another intense and varied listening experience featuring one of the most compelling chamber-music works of the late Romantic period.
